Andreas Dalen (NO)
62,5 % 12. January–9. February
Andreas Dalen (1975) is education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen. After he graduated in 2002 he spent two years living and working in Germany. He has now established himself in Oslo.
At the moment he takes part in the exhibition ”How to build a universe hat doesn’t fall apart two days later” at Wattis Institute in San Francisco.

Andreas Dalen works primarily with drawing. He starts out with digitally composing and manipulating an image. He then transfers the motif to paper and uses colour pencils to totally cover the empty fields. In this process of tightening the image Andreas moves away from line and sketch drawings, giving a more graphic or even painted expression.

At TWT Andreas Dalen will show 62.5%. The title of the exhibition refers to the Norwegian State’s ownership in the new Hydro-Statoil. In the works the drill bit appears as both a symbolic and aesthetic object. The drill bit is a symbol of Norwegian Wealth and advanced technology. And by looking at the latter part of the actual word (in Norwegian drill bit= borekrone, krone = crown) there is also an association to Norwegian monetary unit as well as the King’s Crown, an archaic symbol.

Lastly the drill bit can be seen as en aesthetic object with its symmetrical, geometric and almost abstract shape.
